Big storm threatening your home? Make these moves before it hits!!
Storms can seemingly come out of nowhere. Is your house protected? With a little planning and foresight, you can ultimately save you and your family a lot of money and hassle. Make these moves before severe weather hits.
Before storms ever arrive, discuss with your insurance agent about adding flood insurance to your homeowners policy and ensuring all coverage for your home is sufficient in case of weather damage.
Locate central shut-off switches for your electrical service—before flooding occurs. If flooding is imminent, turn off the shut-off switch before water enters your home.
During severe thunderstorms, not all surge protectors are fail-safe. Protect your expensive/important electronics (computers, modems, TVs, entertainment systems, etc.) by unplugging them before storms arrive.
After storms have passed, inspect your home for storm damage after the storm has moved out and flood waters have receded. Check roof, windows, trim, gutters, siding for hail damage or damage from flying debris or downed tree limbs. If you have damage, contact your insurance company as soon as possible.
